The History
It all started at McKenna Hospital in New Braunfels, Texas. I was born in the city and at the age of three my parents moved us out to Sattler Texas, a much more country setting than the city I was born in. They relocated a house about 30 miles out of town where my dad, a carpenter by trade added on my room and a back porch and built a garage. Even at such a young age I was his little helper, there are several pictures of my up on a ladder helping him out in any way I can. This continued as I progressed through school, first being driven into the town we moved from to attend school, and then changing schools at about sixth grade. Of course I didn’t like it at first but grew to love it, much was the same yet much was different. When you are so spread out from your friends you tend to enjoy the time you do have together.
Once I started the new school I met my neighbors and that began one of the happiest times of my life. Trekking through the woods, having different adventures every day, just a bunch of kids doing whatever they felt like. Building a fort, looking for rocks, clearing bike trails and just generally exploring the wilderness were typical summer days. Riding my bike was something I loved and still do, I tend to prefer bmx one speed to ten speeds but as I get older bmx loses it merits. Out in our neighborhood blocks were equal to about 3 city blocks so going around the block was quite a workout. One time we actually rode about 15 miles on the side of one of the most dangerous highways around, all to get some fireworks and we almost made it back but got caught on the home strech. Those were typical days up until about middle school then we just kind of drifted apart and I started to get into video games.
To say video games are not art to me is crazy, interactive stories, dialogue, artwork and programming all come together in a crazy twisted form of art. When I got to thinking about what I really wanted to do in life, video games was a natural choice, something drew me to them. It all started with nintendo, I had a friend who had a ton of games for it so we would play for hours on end. Eventually super nintendo came out and we progressed through that as well, I went the nintendo route hardly ever playing a sega. Watching games evolve was so engaging at first, to see those 2d characters become 3d was a sight to see. Once 3d was commonplace the effect died off it became more about gameplay.
