The Music Listener
Listening to anything can inspire any number of emotions, good, bad and ugly. At one point in my life a switch went off in my head and I realized music had a deep connection to emotion. The emotion of the creators are carried through to the notes and lyrics. Music can represent the wide scale of emotions; sadness, happiness, energizing, mellowing and so much more. While I am in a certain mood music representing an emotion that complements it is what I want to listen to. In another mood that same music just wont cut it. I like all music as I see it as art, my personality doesn’t judge just accepts; rap, country, folk music, jazz whatever I can come across I try to give it a chance. Depending on my mood certain genres work others dont and it changes day to day, mood to mood. Every song means something different to the listener, its how you internalize it that makes a song good or not. Many influences make their way into that, certain genres gain a bad reputation through various experiences with them. I used to despise folk music because my dad always listened to it, but once I got passed that prejudice I realized its good music in context. My mom loved the Rolling Stones and I would grow tired of listening to it blaring loud but after giving them a chance I realize they deserve her devotion. Music effects us all differently and shouldn’t be a basis for hatred, To Each His Own. Don’t Hate just Appreciate.
